This week however, San Francisco felt more like Death Valley - with the hot baking sun showing no mercy, and not even a hint of fog or clouds in the sky. Even in the epicenter of the Golden Gate bridge, the ocean breeze barely brought the thermastat down.
To battle the heatwave, this past weekend we took a trip up the coast to Mendocino, California, which is approximately 3 hours north of San Francisco proper.
Located on the expansive California coastline, the town of Mendocino is a natural outcropping that sits right on the edge of the deep blue Pacific, and is an amazing Hippie enclave filled with artists and craftspeople - and of course incredible restaurants and bed and breakfasts.
We spent a perfect stay revisiting with our friends at the Stanford Inn, a 100% organic, vegetarian and pet friendly bed and breakfast. Strolling through the organic gardens that feed the Raven's restaurant, we were reminded of our episode #83 where we featured Gunner Thompson and Andrew Field - who prepared a mouth-watering vegetarian feast for us!
Mendocino is a gorgeous place, and it was striking that even right by the ocean (where the temperature is normally cooler and breezy), the sun and heat wasn't too far out of our minds.
As we made our drive back, we stopped in the middle of the Redwoods in Navarro for a brief picnic. The peace and tranquility of the Redwood groves of Northern California are some of the most breathtaking places on the planet, but again we discovered the climate in this fragile ecosystem was way above normal... and we couldn't help but wonder how anyone could possibly dispute the science behind global warming.

Most of all, we're beginning our successful sponsorship drive- where those lucky companies, brands and philanthropic individuals can see their name in lights...well, at least 15 seconds at a time at the beginning and end of each show!
Very soon we'll be posting which contending supporters of our series have signed on, and we'll be making announcements on our blog and on our site.

Today we're taking a trip to the ocean in Santa Cruz, California - to
treat ourselves on the successful completion of our post-production
for the Hippy Gourmet Great Spas of Italy Tour, 2005.
This is a beautiful work in progress that was filmed entirely in
high-definition and highlights both the organic and slow food
movements, something Italy is famous for!
So for today, we depart our editing cave to get touched by the sun and
feel the breeze...because it's back to work tomorrow! (ok, well later
tonite : )

for peace on earth and especially in Iraq and Darfur,
amongst other places.
We were so thrilled to receive so many warm and supportive
e-mails thanking us for our message of peace, and were
even happier to receive letters from viewers who weren't
happy with what they felt was 'unpatriotic rhetoric,'
coming from what they thought was a PBS cooking show.
Well of course we are a television cooking series,
but we also feel that it's a celebration of taking
part in this great democracy we live in by questioning
the logic and rationale for going to war, and for
advocating peace. Sincerely, peace should not be
considered a political stance, but rather a humane
approach to life, liberty, love and the free pursuit
For the record, The Hippy Gourmet TV Show has received
a number of e-mails from soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan,
Kuwait and serving from around the world. We have even
received DVD orders for holidays and birthdays from
soldiers back to their families...for which we go out
of our way to shower their families with free goodies,
while not charging the soldiers for their orders.
Saying to these young men and women who are stationed
around the world that we love them, care about them
and want them home right now, is not unpatriotic.
Rather, we show them our support by keeping them in
our minds and hearts and imagining a world where peace
prevails over war.
This being said, we want those who disagree with us
to know how much we appreciate your taking the time
to share your opinion with our community. It's our
hope that in our own small way we can mirror a
better world between us, by listening to each other
and growing from the experience.
Again, we reiterate, Peace in Iraq, Afghanistan,
Darfur, and elsewhere abroad, and to bringing our
soldiers home safely.
Peace, Love and Good Eats,
The Hippy Gourmet

Traveling through the Vancouver Airport, the Hippy Gourmet production team ran into former Vice President Al Gore, who was on his way to do interviews about his recent film “An Inconvenient Truth” Mr. Gore was gracious to stop and chat with us about his film and to also talk briefly about his recent film festival awards with Farmer John Peterson (regarding his film, “The Real Dirt on Farmer John”). President Gore was extremely approachable yet warmly evaded our questions about him running for office in 2008! The Hippy Gourmet will be featuring the interview with Al Gore and a movie review, along with links for viewing a trailer and participating with the film through the Hippy Gourmet website.
The Behind the Scenes Story of The Hippy Gourmet – Here is a recent sample article available for publishing that explains the history of the show, its founding producers, director James Ehrlich and host (Hippy Gourmet) Bruce Brennan.
