"The biggest study into organic food has found that it is more nutritious than ordinary produce and may help to lengthen people's lives...."
"...The study found that organic fruit and vegetables contained as much as 40% more antioxidants, which scientists believe can cut the risk of cancer and heart disease..."
Although the Hippy Gourmet finds this study rather obvious, it's wonderful that our friends in the UK are doing this kind of research and proving what we've been saying and practicing for years!

Hippy Gourmet on ABC TV on Thursday, 10/25 at 3pm

Tomorrow, Thursday October 25th at 3pm on ABC Channel 7 (KGO in San Francisco) Bruce Brennan and James Ehrlich will be on "View from the Bay" - making a beautiful, Jerusalem Artichoke Dip, and talking about everything from cooking with Solar Ovens, to wearing Dash Hemp clothing, and of course chatting about our new book "The Hippy Gourmet's Quick and Simple Cookbook for Healthy Eating" (Hachette USA) and our new syndicated TV series "Organic Living with the Hippy Gourmet" (weekends at 5:30P on TV20 - cable 13).

A wonderful day at the Spice of Life Festival in Berkeley, California!

This past Sunday, October 14th The Hippy Gourmet paid a visit to the annual Spice of Life Festival on Shattuck Street in downtown Berkeley, California!
It was a beautiful, sunny day and we got a chance to hang out with about 40,000 of our closest friends from the San Francisco Bay Area.
We were on stage with the Kitchen's on Fire ( chef Mike C., showing the crowd how to make an Organic Spaghetti Squash with Marinara Sauce! Yum! (recipe below)
Then after we fed the hungry crowd with all that wonderful spaghetti squash, we parked ourselves at the Pegasus Bookstore booth at the festival and did hours of book signings and fun DVD give-aways, as well as photo opportunities with our host, Bruce Brennan! Amy from Pegasus was awesome ( and if you're in Berkeley you just have to go and check out there bookstores! Warm, comfy, inviting and everyone there is so knowledgeable, especially when it comes to helping you find our "Hippy Gourmet's Quick and Simple Cookbook for Healthy Eating" (Hachette USA).
The folks at Kitchen on Fire were so incredible! They had the whole operation fine tuned and ready for action and were masters on-stage and off! We also want to thank the Shattuck Street organization and the friendly people at Elephant Pharmacy in Berkeley, who were kind enough to allow this event to take place in their main parking lot!
Spaghetti Squash - don't be afraid of Squash!
It's yellow and can be about the size of a football.
Boil a large pot of water and either slice the squash in half first, or poke holes in it before placing it in the boiling water.
Depending on the squash it can take about 30-40 minutes to cook through (it's nice and soft and tender on the inside)
Let it cool a little...then scrape the seeds from the inside of the squash (you can do this beforehand if you cut it in half)
Using a fork, gently scrape the inside of each half and watch as it comes out looking just like pasta noodles!
Marinara is easy to make.
Put some garlic nicely minced with some olive oil in a sauce pan.
Fresh, organic tomatoes sliced and diced go on top of that (you can add some onions too if you like)
Add some fresh or dried oregano and/or marjoram to taste and let the sauce simmer down.
Once you like the taste of the sauce, take it off the heat and gently stir it over the Spaghetti Squash, making sure to mix it well.
Serve it up hot and ask yourself if you even miss pasta! It's loaded with vitamins, low on carbs and of course 100% organic. Enjoy!

"Organic Living with the Hippy Gourmet" premiers tonight on TV20 (cable 13) 5:30P

To all of our local San Francisco, Bay Area fans (from Ukiah, California to Monterey, California and San Francisco to Sacramento roughly) - (plus other stations around the country coming soon).

Our new commercial version of the Hippy Gourmet begins this evening at 5:30 PM on TV20 (cable 13) and will be on every weekend (Saturday and Sunday in this time slot).

"Organic Living with the Hippy Gourmet" is a wonderful progression for us in addition to our national PBS series (that also has a new season of shows coming your way this month), because the caveat is that only 'green and sustainable' sponsors are allowed to advertise on our show!

We're also so proud to be blocked for a full hour of programming (from 5:30 - 6:30) with "YourGreenLife" with Lesley Nagey!

Our new series features wonderful chefs, organic produce and sustainable ingredients, with amazing stories of people making a real difference in the world! Tonight's first show for instance is about Ann Cooper ( the Berkeley school system lunch lady who prepares organic, hand-made foods for 8,000 school kids each and every day!

Tomorrow you can come meet the Hippy Gourmet at the Berkeley Spice of Life Festival (we'll be there live on stage from 1:30 - 2pm) and also signing books before and after.

Don't forget to spread the word about our "Hippy Gourmet's Quick and Simple Cookbook for Healthy Eating" (Hachette USA) - as we're calling this 'recipes to end the war'!
